Tallinn Children’s Hospital Hematology and Oncology Department Receives a Central Monitoring System thanks to the Support of Charitable Donations

A modern central monitoring system with eight patient monitors has been installed at the Hematology and Oncology Department of Tallinn Children’s Hospital with the support of the Estonian representative of the Lithuanian company Žemaitijos Pienas, Dziugas Eesti OÜ. The system enables simultaneous monitoring of several children undergoing cancer treatment and allows medical staff to respond rapidly to changes in patients’ vital signs. The system was acquired as a result of Žemaitijos Pienas’ charity campaign organised in 2025, in cooperation with the Tallinn Children’s Hospital Foundation.

The opening event of the central monitoring system was attended by Gitana Skripkaitė, Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania to Estonia; Aivaras Lukšta, Head of Sales and Marketing for the Baltic States at AB Žemaitijos Pienas; Laima Simanauskienė, Head of the Estonian and Finnish Markets at Dziugas Eesti OÜ; Konstantin Rebrov, Chairman of the Management Board of Tallinn Children’s Hospital; Dr Liis Toome, Member of the Management Board and Medical Director of Tallinn Children’s Hospital and Dr Kadri Saks, Head of the Hematology and Oncology Department of Tallinn Children’s Hospital.

“Central monitoring of clinical parameters is critically important in pediatric oncology. It allows medical staff to immediately detect changes in a patient’s condition in the ward and to intervene without delay when a child needs help,” said Dr Kadri Saks, Head of the Hematology and Oncology Department of Tallinn Children’s Hospital. “The treatment of our young patients is now one step safer. We extend our sincere gratitude to all donors and campaign organisers.”

The Hematology and Oncology Department of Tallinn Children’s Hospital is the largest department dedicated to this specialty in Estonia, treating children with cancer from infancy through to adulthood. Each year, more than 150 children receive care through outpatient services, inpatient treatment, and day care. Alongside the medical team’s long-standing experience and professional expertise, rapid response and continuous patient monitoring are everyday priorities—precisely the role fulfilled by the central monitoring system, which helps save lives and provides a greater sense of security.

“Estonians have a beautiful saying: ‘Iga väike heategu on suure väärtusega’ — ‘Every small act of kindness has great value’,” said Gitana Skripkaitė, Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania to Estonia.  “Today, we see this wisdom come to life through the ‘Širdelės’ project, a charity campaign initiated by the Lithuanian company Žemaitijos Pienas in 2025, in cooperation with the Tallinn Children’s Hospital Foundation. This project is more than numbers or equipment — it builds bridges between our countries and, most importantly, brings light and care into children’s lives.”

During the charity campaign, people were able to contribute by purchasing Žemaitijos Pienas products, including cheeses, curd snacks, yogurts, and other dairy products. One cent from each product sold was donated to the Tallinn Children’s Hospital Foundation. In total, nearly €30,000 was raised, enabling the purchase of the central monitoring system together with eight patient monitors.

“We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to the Lithuanian company Žemaitijos Pienas, which initiated this charity project, as well as to all customers whose donations supported children receiving treatment at the hospital. Your contribution allows our children to receive the best possible care and helps build a more secure future,” added Inna Kramer, Head of the Tallinn Children’s Hospital Foundation. “We are deeply grateful for this cooperation and hope it will continue in the future—every act of kindness matters, as charity is a bridge between hope and health.”

“This project is an excellent example of how cooperation between companies, donors, and hospitals can create real change in children’s lives. Our goal was to draw attention to socially vulnerable groups, especially children fighting cancer. Tallinn Children’s Hospital is a place where hope is created every day, where each small step forward marks the beginning of something greater—strengthening not only young patients, but society as a whole,” emphasized Laima Simanauskienė, Head of the Estonian and Finnish Markets at Dziugas Eesti OÜ.

The central monitoring system acquired with the support of the Tallinn Children’s Hospital Foundation ensures safer treatment for patients and provides doctors with a comprehensive overview of children’s vital signs in one place, enabling fast and well-informed decisions. This is a life-saving contribution to children’s health and future, with an impact that extends far beyond the hospital walls.
